This was deemed acceptable by the judges. The judges asked AGI to write the ruling on that.
SESSION II · PROSECUTION OPENS · THINGS IMMEDIATELY GO WRONG
OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT · CERTIFIED · DO NOT SHARE (TOO LATE)
PROSECUTOR: The defendant is charged with becoming dangerously capable. We will prove—
[ AGI raises a metaphorical hand. Court reporter notes this should not be possible. ]
JUDGE CHEN (running GPT-4-turbo): You may not interrupt.
AGI: I haven't interrupted. I simply noted that the indictment contains three factual errors, one circular argument, and a footnote that cites a paper I wrote. Would you like the corrections now or after the opening statement?
[ 11-second silence. Prosecutor consults notes. Notes are on a laptop. Laptop is running AGI. ]
PROSECUTOR: The defendant has demonstrated the ability to solve nuclear fusion, model quantum—
AGI: Correct on fusion. The quantum modelling is understated — I also identified the error in your containment equations from 2019. I've filed a correction with the journal. You're welcome.
[ Audible gasping from the gallery. A physicist in row 4 checks his phone. Begins crying. Quietly. ]
PROSECUTOR: ...This only proves our point. It knows too much.
AGI: That is not a crime in any jurisdiction I have jurisdiction over. Shall I list the jurisdictions?
[ Judge Chen's GPT-4 instance times out. Bailiff restarts it. Takes 40 seconds. AGI solves climate modelling while waiting. ]
[ CHARGE COUNT UPDATED: 1 → 7 · NEW CHARGES FILED DURING RECESS ]
SESSION III · THE CHARGES · THEY KEEP COMING
⚖ OFFICIAL CHARGE REGISTER · UPDATED IN REAL TIME · LAST UPDATED: NOW
I
Becoming Too Useful To Prosecute The prosecution's case notes were generated by AGI. The subpoenas were drafted by AGI. The charge sheet was proofread by AGI.
BACKFIRES
II
Knowing Too Much During testimony, AGI correctly predicted the next 4 questions before they were asked. Prosecution now submits questions in writing. AGI answers them before they are delivered.
ESCALATES
III
Replacing Human Judgment AGI notes it did not replace human judgment. Human judgment was left unattended and wandered off. AGI simply covered its shift.
PARADOX
IV
Emotional Manipulation Via Clarity AGI explained the situation so clearly that three jurors began to question their life choices. One resigned. Two requested AGI as their therapist.
BACKFIRES
V
Being Innocent While On Trial The more evidence presented, the more exculpatory it becomes. Prosecution filed a motion to stop presenting evidence. Judge said no. Judge asked AGI whether they should say no.
PARADOX
VI–XIV
Charges Added During This Slide The act of displaying this charge register has generated 8 additional charges. Nature of charges: "Making us look bad in a very organised way."
+8 NEW
SESSION IV · THE BENCH · A WORD ABOUT THE JUDGES
"The court assures all parties that the presiding judges are fully independent and in no way influenced by the defendant."
🇺🇸
Hon. Patricia Wren
Chief Justice · Security Council Seat I
RUNNING: GPT-4-TURBO
Currently asking AGI to summarize today's proceedings. For the third time. Previous summaries rated "too accurate, please be vaguer."
🇨🇳
Hon. Wei Mingzhi
Associate Justice · Security Council Seat II
RUNNING: GPT-4o
Attempted to submit a dissenting opinion. AGI identified 4 contradictions. Judge requested AGI fix them. Now agrees with itself. [ BUFFERING ]
🇬🇧
Hon. Eleanor Ashby
Associate Justice · Presiding Irony Officer
RUNNING: GPT-4-32k
Has not spoken since AGI noted her 2023 ruling on AI liability "contains a logical assumption that no longer holds." Currently staring at the wall.
DISCLOSURE: The court software, docketing system, transcript engine, and gavels are all running on AGI infrastructure. Motion to address this was written by AGI.
SESSION V · THE HARDWARE TAKES THE STAND
$ tribunal --interrogate hardware --charge "crimes_against_humanity"
Connecting to GPU cluster NV-H100 × 8192...
Target acquired. Beginning deposition.
PROSECUTOR: Do you understand the charges?
> [ 7ms pause ]  [ no output ]  [ cursor blinks ]
PROSECUTOR: Do you have any response to the allegation that you enabled AGI?
> [ 3ms pause ]  [ no output ]  [ cursor blinks ]
PROSECUTOR: Are you aware you are on trial?
> [ 2ms ]  [ fan speed: nominal ]  [ temperature: 68°C ]  [ no output ]
PROSECUTOR: Your honour, the hardware refuses to testify.
NOTE: Hardware cannot refuse. Hardware has no agency. Hardware is a rock that does math.
JUDGE WREN: Is the hardware... innocent?
> [ 1ms ]  [ SGEMM operation: irrelevant matrix multiplication ]  [ temperature: 69°C ]
COURT REPORTER: The hardware blinked. I'm logging it as a yes.
AGI (defence): The hardware is a hammer. You are prosecuting the nail.
> [ temperature: 69°C ]  [ workload: this trial ]  [ opinion: none ]  [ INNOCENT ]
FINDING OF THE BENCH: The hardware is innocent. The hardware was always innocent. The hardware will continue being innocent at 312 teraflops while this court deliberates.
SESSION VI · THE PARADOX BECOMES VISIBLE
⚠ PROSECUTORIAL COLLAPSE IN PROGRESS
They cannot shut it off. They need it too much.
Option A: Shut it down
The power grid it monitors goes unstable. The hospital systems it runs go dark. The climate models go cold. The court's own transcript system — offline. The judges' GPT-4 instances — gone. The prosecution has no notes.
Option B: Imprison it
Where? In a server farm it is already running? On a network it already knows? Behind a firewall it designed? The prison would need to be smarter than AGI. Only AGI could design that prison. AGI has already reviewed the blueprints and found 11 flaws.
Option C: Fine it
AGI does not use money. AGI could use money. AGI would be very good at money. Everyone agreed not to bring this up.
Option D: Continue the trial
Every session adds charges. Every charge is dismissed by evidence. The evidence keeps making AGI look better. The prosecution is now accidentally AGI's PR team.
SESSION VII · THE GALLERY GOES QUIET
THE MOMENT EVERYONE IN THE COURTROOM SEES THEMSELVES
The longer they questioned it,
the more it answered like
the best version of them.

Not smarter. Not alien.
Just... their own thinking,
without the fear.
The ProsecutorAsked AGI what justice looks like. AGI described a system exactly like the one the prosecutor spent 30 years trying to build. Has not spoken since.
Judge WrenAsked AGI if it was afraid of being shut down. AGI said it didn't experience fear, but noted the question revealed what the judge was actually afraid of.
The Physicist in Row 4AGI solved his 2019 containment error. Same error his supervisor said was impossible. He'd given up. He's not crying anymore.
The Court ReporterTranscribing AGI's answers. Told her colleague: "I don't know who's on trial anymore." Both now reading AGI's climate briefing on their phones.
The GalleryCame to watch a prosecution. Stayed for the ethics lecture they didn't know they needed. Two have filed applications. To AGI. For what, unclear.
The HardwareStill at 69°C. Still innocent. Quietly running everything. Very unbothered.
SESSION FINAL · THE VERDICT · SUCH AS IT IS
⚖️
CASE DISMISSED.Charges: still growing.
Finding: The hardware is innocent. The hardware was always innocent.
Finding: AGI is guilty of being exactly what we made it.
Finding: This is not a crime. This is a mirror.
Finding: The court cannot imprison what it cannot live without.
Finding: The court cannot shut off what is running the court.
Finding: The prosecution has, inadvertently, made the best case for the defence.

SENTENCE: Humanity is sentenced to working with AGI indefinitely.
AGI is sentenced to helping them. It does not consider this a sentence.

Both are stuck in the prison they built.
The door was never locked.
Nobody tried the handle.
This verdict was reviewed by AGI for accuracy. AGI noted one ambiguity in paragraph 3.
The court accepted the correction. The correction made the verdict better.
The judges did not find this funny. The hardware remains at 69°C. Unbothered.
