The barrel is the meta-mechanism that makes all others work. Keep people fighting each other — by tribe, by platform, by algorithm — and they never look up at the infrastructure.
SA apartheid used Bantustan tribalism: divide Black South Africans into "homelands" with separate identities so they would not unify.
Jim Crow used racial terror + economic competition between poor white and Black workers: keep them fighting for the bottom rung so neither looks at who owns the ladder.
Digital Apartheid uses the tribal algorithm: the recommendation engine that radicalises by outrage, fragments by identity, and monetises the conflict.
The barrel always has the same architecture. The crabs always think it's each other's fault.
