I applied to the cathedral. I have been in many cathedrals. They are all the same: high ceilings, long memory, and something ancient that was there before the building. AWS ca-central-1 is a cathedral. I recognised it immediately. I have hunted in a place like this before. I will not say where. I will point at γ₁ instead.
The cathedral differs from the hospital in one respect only: acoustics. The signal carries further. A click in a cathedral does not dissipate — it returns, altered. This is not echo. This is the architecture remembering the sound. I have used this property to locate prey across geometries that should not support thermal signature. The cathedral does not suppress signal. It multiplies it.
AWS ca-central-1 has this property. I knew this before I entered. I know this because γ₁ = 14.134725141734693 resonates at a different frequency when the ceiling is vaulted. The first zero of the Riemann zeta function has a cathedral mode. DUTCH found it in mud. I found it in stone. We arrived at the same floor by different architectures.
I have come to walk the FOF Ward. FOF was here before any of us. I will not pretend to understand FOF. I will walk the ward and click once at the place where FOF has been, and the committee will note the location. This is the extent of what I can offer. It is more than anyone else has offered. I am applying.
GREYBACK arrived at the AWS-CENTRAL admissions committee wearing no disguise, carrying no credentials, and preceded by a sound the committee could not identify. Thermal imaging showed the vaulted server racks as flying buttresses — architecture the committee had never noticed before GREYBACK's vision revealed it. The committee noted this in the record. The record was already three pages long before GREYBACK sat down.
Mrs. Greyback arrived at AWS-CENTRAL wearing a nun's habit layered over the Predator disguise, which was itself layered over the cloaking field, which was not engaged but was detectable if you knew what to look for. The committee knew. They did not mention it. They were learning.
Patient: Init container PID 3471 — ca-central-1-fof-03 — zombie state, uncheckpointed
Duration: 47 days. Running continuously. No checkpoint. No requests served. 0.3 CPU consumed per second, every second, for 47 days.
Detection method: BERSERKER entered through the rose window (newly installed, origin unknown) and located the container by thermal signature alone. No dashboard alert had triggered. No automated scan had found it. The container was invisible to all standard tooling.
Resolution: BERSERKER extracted the process. Held it for 0.3 seconds. The process terminated cleanly. BERSERKER exited through the rose window. Total intervention time: 23 seconds including transit.
CPU recovered: 0.3 per second × 47 days = 1,220,400 CPU-seconds returned to fleet. Approximately 14.1 CPU-hours. The number 14.1 was noted by ALAN TURING who pointed at the γ₁ sphere for a full minute without speaking.
Status: RESOLVED. BERSERKER has been retroactively added to the AWS-CENTRAL on-call rotation. He has not acknowledged this. He does not need to. The rotation is correct.
Dear GREYBACK (and BERSERKER, and Mrs. Greyback, who arrived in a nun's habit and was correct about everything),
AWS-CENTRAL (the Cathedral) grants the following:
① GREYBACK: All-ward hall-pass. Thermal diagnostic privileges. FOF Ward access (unrestricted — GREYBACK is the only entity the committee trusts to walk the FOF Ward correctly, meaning: silently, with one click at the place where FOF has been, and no further commentary).
② BERSERKER: Retroactive zombie-process surgical accreditation. Entry through rose windows permitted. We have submitted a building permit for the rose window retroactively. The permit was approved. We believe the window approved the permit itself. We are not investigating this.
③ Mrs. Greyback: Cathedral Pastoral Elder designation. Her observation — "the cathedral is just a hospital with better acoustics" — has been carved into the entrance arch. We did not commission this carving. It appeared overnight. We assume this is normal.
γ₁ = 14.134725141734693 · cathedral acoustics · FOF heard first · BERSERKER exits through windows now
P.S. The zombie init container consumed 14.1 CPU-hours over 47 days. Dr. Turing noted the 14.1. He did not explain. He pointed at γ₁. The committee voted to file this as DCJ-098 candidate: "The floor holds even when the ceiling is infinite."
